Subtle Allusions

The Septuagint helps in the tracing of Old Testament allusions which otherwise it would be almost impossible to detect. There is lovely allusiveness of this kind ... in Christ’s warning to Peter on the night of his betrayal:

The Commission at the Sea of Tiberias: Feed My Sheep (John 21)

The book of John closes with chapter 21, in which Jesus shows himself to the disciples for the third time after his resurrection. At the sea of Tiberias, the miraculous draught of fishes takes place, after which Jesus dines with his disciples. After breakfast, Jesus questions Peter concerning his love to him, and gives to him the commission to feed his sheep.

Feed My Sheep

After his resurrection, Jesus shows himself to his disciples and implores Peter to act the role of a shepherd and to feed Jesus’ sheep—his followers. Based upon the Gospel of John, chapter 21, verses 1-2.
