Was Jesus ‘Killed’?

“Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain.” (Acts 2:22,23)

Inerrancy and the Inscription on the Cross

To the [Bible] inerrantist, the tiniest discrepancy has the potential to destroy the entire Bible. Consider the explanations suggested for the divergent reports of the inscription on the cross. The differences themselves are insignificant:

Who Killed Jesus?

Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged... [and] he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Pavement, and in Hebrew, Gabbatha ... He said to the Jews, “Behold your King!” They cried out, “Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. Scriptural Arguments Adduced for a Wednesday Crucifixion

The scriptural arguments adduced for a Wednesday crucifixion¹ have not been met by the subsequent contributors who believe that Jesus was crucified on Friday. Those who have endeavoured to show that “three days and three nights” does not necessarily involve the full period have failed to appreciate the fact that, for two important reasons, even the expression “the third day” requires three complete days. In the first place, since our Lord was not buried until sunset, the crucifixion day was ended and the passover Sabbath was the first day in the tomb. Secondly, as described in Matthew 28:1, 2, Jesus rose towards sunset on the weekly Sabbath (see Testimony, loc. cit.); the last day in the tomb, the third, was therefore almost a complete one.

Jesus Is Scourged and Crucified

Roman soldiers strip Jesus of his clothes, scourges him, and mocks him. Jesus then carries his cross to Golgotha and is crucified by Roman soldiers. Based upon the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 27, verses 26-50.
