Creation Revealed By Vision

The six days of Genesis 1 have been debated hotly throughout the history of Jewish and Christian interpretation of the passage. It is typically agreed that the six days refer to the amount of time taken by God to carry out all the creative acts described in Genesis 1. However, there is a very wide range of interpretation concerning exactly what those acts were, what was created by them, how long the days themselves are, and whether the creative acts of the six days encompass the entire universe, and whether they involve actually creating the universe or simply restoring an existing planet.

Is Genesis 1 In Harmony With Science?

Many special creationists believe Genesis 1 was written in harmony with (and even to teach), specific scientific facts; a view called concordism. Over the centuries concordists proposed countless models trying to justify interpreting Genesis 1 as describing a scientifically accurate description of the universe, and especially of the creation of the solar system and life on earth.

How Old is the World?

The secular world continually disputes our belief that the world is less than six thousand years old. Their arguments are supported by the many stones and fossils which have been found, dating, according to their scientific calculations, millions of years back.

Co-operation Between Plant and Animal

There is some possibility of explaining the varied relationships between one animal species and another by postulating their possession of reasoning ability. The hermit crab carefully places a stinging anemone on its shell with the intention of protecting itself from enemies. The Pompihus wasp paralyses the black tarantula without actually killing it because it knows, or assumes, or is aware that its own grub will not eat dead flesh. The young swallow flies south for the purpose of finding warmth and food. But only by stretching the imagination to the utmost can we suppose that a plant chooses its companions, food and habitat by this means.

Probability Approaches Zero

“Materialism has substituted magic for sober thought. The whole process of evolution becomes a succession of miracles without intelligible ground in the process. The appearance in a world of chance of any order at all, the emergence of life with its series of forms and organs, the final appearance of intelligence and a sense of beauty—all are miracles.”¹

Mimicry and Chance

Sometimes in our study of biology we are faced with facts which seem at first sight to be more rationally explained by the materialistic theory than by the postulation of a supervising intelligence. We suggest that this is due to in appreciation of the smallness of our knowledge, or over-estimation of the powers of chance. We know very little about the penultimate causes or laws which govern the ways of life, but if we postulate foresight as the ultimate cause, it is unreasonable to believe that the intelligence which has created a diatom of beautiful form has no part in the small variations which occur in individuals or races. If we do not postulate the direct supervision of foresight we have only three logical alternatives, namely, that (i) foresight is acting indirectly through the medium of limited chance, or (ii) through the medium of a fixed law, or that (iii) pure chance has produced the effect.

Beauty and Chance

For ears to hear the heavenly harmonies; For eyes to see the unseen in the seen; For vision of the Worker in the work; For hearts to apprehend Thee everywhere; We thank Thee, Lord!

Creation Revealed In Six Days

Those who recall Air-Commodore P. J. Wiseman’s book, New Discoveries in Babylonia about Genesis¹ in which he explained his views about the making of the Book of Genesis, will be interested in his latest publication, which is an enquiry into the precise meaning of the first chapter of the Bible.² It might have been thought that all possible explanations of the Creation narrative had been canvassed by now, but the Air-Commodore presents a new way of looking at the subject, and what is more, makes at least as good a case for it as has been made for any of the others.

Darwin’s Dilemma: The Mystery of the Cambrian Fossil Record

Darwin’s Dilemma examines what many consider to be the most powerful refutation of Darwinian evolution—the Cambrian fossil record: the geologically-sudden appearance of dozens of major complex animal types in the fossil record without any trace of the gradual transitional steps Charles Darwin had predicted. Frequently described as “the Cambrian Explosion,” the development of these new animal types required a massive increase in genetic information. “The big question that the Cambrian Explosion poses is where does all that new information come from?” says Dr. Stephen Meyer, a featured expert in the documentary and author of the book Signature in the Cell: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design.

Flight: The Genius of Birds

Flight: The Genius of Birds is part of Illustra Media’s documentary series The Design of Life. Each episode explores a different realm of the animal kingdom and the remarkable biological systems that make life on Earth possible.

Living Waters: Intelligent Design in the Oceans of the Earth

Filmed in Canada, Bermuda, Polynesia, Mexico, and the United States, this remarkable documentary celebrates the beauty and brilliance of the biological systems that make life in the oceans possible. Living Waters: Intelligent Design in the Oceans of the Earth is a fascinating exploration of life in the liquid universe that covers more than 70% of our planet. Extraordinary cinematography and computer animation open stunning windows of discovery, including:

Metamorphosis: The Beauty and Design of Butterflies

Throughout history, butterflies have fascinated artists and philosophers, scientists and schoolchildren with their profound mystery and beauty. In the video documentary Metamorphosis you will explore their remarkable world as few ever have before.

Origin: Design, Chance and the First Life on Earth

Origin: Design, Chance and the First Life on Earth is the sequel to Illustra Media’s 2002 documentary, Unlocking the Mystery of Life, which challenged the paradigm of scientific materialism and the belief that life is nothing more than the product of blind, undirected processes.

The Privileged Planet

Many scientists and philosophers have claimed that Earth is an ordinary speck of dust adrift, without purpose or significance, in a vast cosmic sea. Yet current astronomical evidence seems to suggest just the opposite. We now know that a rare and finely-tuned array of factors makes Earth suitable for complex life.

Science & Faith

In this episode, the focus is on the apparent tension between science and faith, and that there is no conflict between a deep religious faith and scientific research. And we should start with recognizing that the Bible’s purpose may have been something other than explaining how the world was put together in its physical structure.

Creationism or, (in the German mode of spelling from a supposed adjective)

Charles Darwin

Charles Robert Darwin, (/ˈdɑːrwɪn/; 12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) was an English naturalist, geologist and biologist, best known for his contributions to the science of evolution. He established that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors, and in a joint publication with Alfred Russel Wallace introduced his scientific theory that this branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process that he called natural selection, in which the struggle for existence has a similar effect to the artificial selection involved in selective breeding.

Creation science

Creation science or scientific creationism is a branch of creationism that claims to provide scientific support for the Genesis creation narrative in the Book of Genesis and disprove or reexplain the scientific facts, theories and scientific paradigms about geology, cosmology, biological evolution, archeology, history, and linguistics.

Creationism is the religious belief that the universe and life originated “from specific acts of divine creation,” as opposed to the scientific conclusion that they came about through natural processes. The first use of the term “creationist” to describe a proponent of creationism is found in an 1856 letter of Charles Darwin describing those who objected on religious grounds to the emerging science of evolution.

Intelligent design

Intelligent design (ID) is the pseudoscientific view that “certain features of the universe and of living things are best explained by an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection.” Educators, philosophers, and the scientific community have demonstrated that ID is a religious argument, a form of creationism which lacks empirical support and offers no testable or tenable hypotheses. Proponents argue that it is “an evidence-based scientific theory about life’s origins” that challenges the methodological naturalism inherent in modern science, while conceding that they have yet to produce a scientific theory. The leading proponents of ID are associated with the Discovery Institute, a politically conservative think tank based in the United States. Although they state that ID is not creationism and deliberately avoid assigning a personality to the designer, many of these proponents express belief that the designer is the Christian deity.

Watchmaker analogy

The watchmaker analogy or watchmaker argument is a teleological argument, which by way of an analogy, states that design of creation (like a watch) implies a designer. The analogy has played a prominent role in natural theology and Deism, which accepted a Creator but rejected Biblical inerrancy and the supernatural interpretation of events such as miracles.

Young Earth creationism

Young Earth creationism (YEC) is the religious belief that the Universe, Earth and all life on Earth were created by direct acts of God less than 10,000 years ago. Its primary adherents are Christians who subscribe to a literal interpretation of the creation narrative in the Bible’s Book of Genesis and believe that God created the Earth in six 24-hour days. In contrast to YEC, old Earth creationism is the belief in a metaphorical interpretation of the Book of Genesis and the scientifically-determined estimated ages of the Earth and Universe.
